Ron Paul’s most glaring deficits as a Republican candidate have been his foreign policy positions. It is no secret that Judge Andrew Napolitano, host of Freedom Watch on Fox Business, is a huge supporter of Ron Paul, a fact that has not escaped my attention and led to an interesting conversation.

Apparently the only politician in America that agreed with Israel’s decision to bomb Iraq’s Osirak nuclear reactor in 1981 was… Ron Paul. The Reagan administration may not have publicly supported the operation, but they were clearly aware of the threat:

I still have no idea what Judge Napolitano is trying to say. Israel was aware of the threat and did the Middle East a great service by neutralizing the threat. Israel was well aware of the U.S. and U.K. position of being unable to bomb the reactor while supporting Iraq in their war against Iran. How does that validate Ron Paul’s recent foreign policy stances with regard to Iran and their obvious rush to obtain nuclear weapons?

Obviously Israel will deal with their own national security threats as they feel necessary. That is not an item up for dispute. It does ignore some larger questions, however.

I really want to know, how does Judge Napolitano assess the threat to our own national security? The American people clearly perceive this threat; in fact, in a recent poll, 63% of Americans chose Iran as one of our top national security threats. Judge Napolitano’s response was:

The video he directed me to did not actually reveal any particularly useful new information. LTC Anthony Shaffer suggesting that Iran poses no threat to Israeli or U.S. national security is not terribly convincing given the volume of information indicating otherwise. Nuclear weapons in the hands of Al Queda terrorists clearly pose a grave threat. Judge Napolitano only provided one source that fits his Ron Paul meme concerning Iran’s threat to our national security.

The piece I linked can be read here. It is no secret that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad believes that Israel will cease to exist under his watch.

I must announce that the Zionist regime (Israel), with a 60-year record of genocide, plunder, invasion and betrayal is about to die and will soon be erased from the geographical scene.

As I indicated, the Mossad is allegedly involved with the sudden and tragic accidents involving Iranian nuclear scientists. Apparently the Israelis view Iran as a threat. So why does Ron Paul feel Iran potentially providing nuclear weapons to Al Queda operatives is not a threat to the U.S.?

Sadly, Judge Napolitano did not choose to engage in any further conversation. He failed to answer the questions I posed, apparently satisfied that the video link he sent me was the only answer necessary.

I believe Ron Paul’s neo-isolationism is a significant threat to our national security. He may have domestic policy ideas that are worth consideration, but the risk of his foreign policy positions should negate him from being the Republican nominee.

He is not a danger, our current polices are the danger. I find it incredible that we are still being told that hate us and are a threat to us because of our freedom. They hate us because of what we have done to them! http://youtu.be/FSaeRHE4_fo WE PUT THE SHAW into power! Then funded Sadam that helped lead to the death of 1/2 million of their people. What we need to do is finally apologize for our actions and promise to not get involved with their affairs. The american people are waking up to the war propaganda. It is astounding that the guy who doesn’t want to start ww3 is being considered the radical and a danger. He will secure our borders and make are military stronger by not having them thinly spread out throughout the world. Which only puts them and us at greater risk.

This isn’t a radical stance its a logical stance. What good has our intervention done thus far?

Only a fool would downplay Iranian rhetoric on both Israel AND the United States. I mean these people hold mass rallies in Tehran and chant over and over again to tone of the destruction of “The Great Satan” [America]. The oligarchy has fired up a certain populism that is inherently anti-Israel, anti-American. Not to be a warmonger, but the Ron Paul strategy of appeasement is not an option, period. I would advocate greater measures of covert operations.
